Verification & Insurance
What “verified pro” means on Okee, in plain terms.
What we check
Before a contractor can appear in the marketplace, they submit:
- Legal business identity (entity name, DBA, business address, tax ID).
- A government-issued photo ID matching the owner or the individual applying.
- An occupational license — for trades that require one under Texas law (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and others). Okee confirms the license number matches an active record with the relevant Texas regulator at the time of onboarding.
- A certificate of general liability insurance issued to the business, with coverage limits meeting or exceeding Okee’s minimums for the trade.
- Where the contractor has employees, a certificate of workers’ compensation insurance where required.
What we do at dispatch
Every appointment is dispatched to a specific, verified contractor. You see the pro’s name and business, and if a team member is being sent, you see who. Contractors whose license or insurance has lapsed are removed from dispatch until they re-verify.
What verification does not mean
Verification is a documentation check, not a guarantee. Specifically:
- Okee does not warrant workmanship. Confirming a license and insurance are on file is not the same as endorsing the quality, safety, or timeliness of any particular job.
- Okee is not the contractor’s employer. Contractors on Okee are independent businesses. Okee does not train, supervise, or direct the work performed at your property.
- Verification is a point-in-time check plus ongoing monitoring. We check documents at onboarding and re-check at renewal windows and when we detect a status change. If a license is revoked between checks, we may not remove the contractor immediately — report anything you notice to support@getokee.com and we will investigate.
- Insurance is the contractor’s insurance, not Okee’s. A claim arising from damage a contractor causes at your home is between you, the contractor, and their insurer. Okee is not a party to that policy and does not insure the work.
If something goes wrong
Damage, no-show, unsafe behavior, or a workmanship dispute — report it to support@getokee.com as soon as you can, ideally with photos. Okee’s trust-and-safety team will investigate, may facilitate a resolution between you and the contractor, and may hold or refund disputed funds where our review supports it. Serious violations can result in the contractor being suspended or removed from the marketplace. Full detail on how disputes are handled is in our Terms of Service.
Homeowner protections
In addition to the dispatch guarantees described on the Aboutpage, homeowners get identity-protected communication (calls and SMS with the pro are proxied so your number is never shared), payment protection through Stripe (Okee never sees your card number, and disputes can go through the card network in addition to Okee’s own review), and account security features (OTP verification at signup, session controls, and support-team assistance if your account is compromised).
